About this activity

The difference between a regular picnic and a sunset picnic is one thing: timing. In June the sun doesn't set until around half past nine in Belgium and the Netherlands, which means you can drive to an open spot after dinner and still have a full golden hour ahead.

Choose a hill, an open field, a dyke, or a beach. Bring the simplest things: bread, cheese, grapes, something warm in a thermos. Let everyone carry a blanket. No planned programme, no agenda — just watch the sky move from blue to pink to red to purple.

For kids this is one of those evenings they remember as 'special' without anything special happening. For parents it's a reminder of how little you actually need.
